UPDATE: Jay Gruden gave an update on Williams' surgery
Jay Gruden announces LT Trent Williams is having a "bursa cleanup" in his knee. Gruden also says he thinks he'll be ready for New Orleans.— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) September 24, 2018
Trent Williams will reporting have a minor surgical procedure done on his knee today. Erin Hawksworth broke the story yesterday, and it has since been confirmed by multiple reporters. She mentioned it should just be a cleanup procedure, possibly for bone spurs that are causing Williams discomfort.
Just in: Trent Williams will undergo a very minor procedure tomorrow and is expected to be back for the #MNF game in New Orleans after the bye week. I am told it’s a very minor surgery and nothing to be overly concerned about. #Redskins— Erin Hawksworth (@ABC7Erin) September 23, 2018
Williams fought through the knee injury all last season before finally being put on IR and having surgery done in December.
The Redskins have been taking it easy on Williams during the off/pre season, and during practices for the regular season. He has discussed not feeling 100%, and playing through pain/ discomfort in the past. The outlook is optimistic for him to return after the bye week, but his recovery will be something to watch all season.
