The Redskins lost to the Colts 21-9. The game was lost early and they were definitely outplayed on both sides of the ball. This was an ugly game.

Outplayed:

Jay Gruden: “Hats off to them...they outplayed us on both sides of the ball.” Said his team struggled against #Colts stunts up front. #Redskins were much too one dimensional.

Colts defense:
“They were very, very loose in their zones. You’re gonna have to check the ball down a lot.”
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) September 16, 2018
Gruden says if they had to do it again, they would design more quick game stuff and be less ambitious with some deep attempts.
No balance:
Gruden laments the lack of balance. They got off track a ton, meaning they were behind the chains on down and distance. Throws everything off.

Chemistry:
Gruden: “We had no chemistry today. Including me as a playcaller. Inside zone didn’t work. Outside zone didn’t work. We got sacked twice on our play passes for goodness sakes.”

— #HTTR (@Redskins) September 16, 2018
Lack of success on 1st and 2nd down:
Smith talks about how the lack of success on 1st and 2nd down led to less quality opportunities. Goes with the lack of chemistry.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) September 16, 2018
Check down:
Alex Smith says Colts defense played very soft zone and forced the Redskins to check it down underneath.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) September 16, 2018
Smith says the #Colts did a great job with their gameplan to not give up any chunk plays. Every time they got something going, something would happen.
