The Mason/Brennan Preseason Hype! Award has been given out unofficially by the fans for years to each preseason's most hyped players, but now we've made it official, and will bring it to a vote.
This week's vote will cover the entire offseason leading up to Thursday’s game against the Patriots. Place your vote for who you feel has been the most hyped player up to this point, whether the hype is deserved or not.
The Rules:
1. Player must have been drafted late or signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Players that have only been on other teams practice squads that are signed by the team are also eligible.
2. A player that has been on the team for several years is still eligible if most of that time has been spent on the practice squad, inactive, or with very limited productivity/time
How have past Mason/Brennan winners done in thr NFL after receiving this glorious award?
The Candidates:
CB Danny Johnson
Johnson has been getting love from a lot of people since joining the Redskins as an UDFA this year. The most important love of all has come from Head Coach Jay Gruden who mentions him a lot during his pressers. Johnson has been making plays throughout camp, and is expected to shine in the preseason. Many people have him as a sleeper for the last spot in the secondary. His hype is on the rise.
One of the first questions I get this time of year when I do Q&A’s is “who are the UDFA’s who could make it?” My answers this year are Danny Johnson and Kenny Ladler. So I talked to them both: https://t.co/6IoW8Tm4Ur

OLB Pete Robertson
Pete Robinson as most fans still call him will make people remember his name in the preseason. Robinson is another player that gets official hype from his head coach, and from fellow players including his cousin Trent Williams. Robinson will push to have the team keep a 5th OLB this year.

I started to ask Jay about the OLB's beyond the obvious top 4 and he didn't even let me finish the question. Pete Robertson has clearly impressed him.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 31, 2018
"He's been unbelievable so far." He talked about how he's moved around a bit, but they found a home for him at OLB.
WR Maurice Harris
Is Harris still eligible for this award after being in 16 games for the Redskins over his two year career? Hell yes he is. 12 career catches and the best TD catch of the season last year hasn’t knocked him out of the Hype! awards just yet. Harris was an UDFA two years ago and was cut before last season started. He wasn’t activated until November, but his believers have faith that he should be getting a lot more playing time. He has had a phenomenal camp, could this be his year to actually do something consistently?

Jay Gruden on Maurice Harris. Says he might be best route runner on team. Loves his blocking. Big help on special teams. I seem to recall these adjectives about a certain former Skins receiver.

CB Adonis Alexander
Supplemental 6th round draft picks have ZERO chance of being cut this year, or so I have been told. Alexander was a hyped player last year, but took a fall and the Skins were able to scoop him up for the low, low price of a 2019 6th round pick. He has all the physical tools to make it, and that’s what people are investing their hype bucks in.
Adonis Alexander Highlights out now welcome to DC ! #HTTR

ILB Shaun Dion Hamilton
Another Bama to add to the collection. SDH has been getting rave reviews from coaches and is already getting labeled a late-round steal. He's a smart player who had major injuries in college end his last two seasons. He's gonna shine in preseason if he stays healthy.
Rookie report: Inside linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton has been calling plays for the No. 2 defense during camp. He's quick to diagnose and react, as was evident on a handful of plays Saturday -- especially on two plays in the red zone in which he helped... https://t.co/Uhx1SmC1EB

#Redskins have high hopes for Shaun Dion Hamilton, if he stays healthy https://t.co/AdsGZlLgER

S Quin Blanding
He should have been drafted higher...or at all! Blanding is another player Redskins fans have hyped up as a potential steal at safety, a position fans and the team have needed an answer at for years. He was one of the highlights of a decent UDFA class that people are hoping can stick around this year.
Quin Blanding, a 5-Star safety with 495 tackles and 10 interceptions, was not drafted by a single NFL team. Unbelievable.

ILB Josh Harvey-Clemons
What is more important than Head Coach hype? Getting the Ken Meringolo hype seal of approval! JHC has been a certified hype machine in camp and is the first one in at ILB when either starter isn’t available. Another physical hype player who has some things the Redskins defense have been missing. And those Kam Chancellor draft comparisons...
#Redskins coach Jay Gruden at the podium. Starts off talking about Josh Harvey-Clemons said he's "slippery"
— Ben Portnoy (@bportnoy15) July 29, 2018
Starting to think that Martrell Spaight will not be on the final roster of 53. Josh Harvey-Clemons has certainly moved ahead on the depth chart. Same could possibly be said for Pete Robertson and Zach Vigil.
— Ken Burgundy (@BurgundyBurner) August 2, 2018
WR Cam Sims
WR? check. 6’5”? check. Making plays in camp in drills designed for the receiver to have an advantage? check. We've have all the ingredients for a presesson hype monster here.

S Kenny Ladler
Can a former CFL star make it on the Redskins, or will he be heading north after the roster cuts next month. Ladler has a lot of the beat guys penciling his name in as a sleeper candidate to make the team, and has been all over the field in training camp.
'Y'all gonna learn the name': After CFL stint, Ladler out to prove he belongs with the #Redskins, by @Matthew_Paras https://t.co/MunnMCNaHt

Kenny Ladler INT in 1 on 1s. Can't be stopped. Alert @Mitch_Tischler !!!!!!

WR Trey Quinn
Trey Quinn was insulted when he heard he was nominated for this award, and immediately gave me an award for being an idiot(this is proudly displayed in my living room next to my journalism degree from Yuengling University). Mr. Irrelevant is the favorite son of fans and coaches alike. He has been called a lock to make the roster by 97% of the world, and the other 3% are on the list. This hype has broken every measuring device we have at Hogs Haven.
Jay Gruden said Trey Quinn has the strongest hands he’s seen at that position. #Redskins. pic.twitter.com/c6CiH42Jqs

Rookie Trey Quinn makes another toe tap sideline catch during full sided drills.
— Dax Gray (@DaxGrayWTKR) July 31, 2018
Mr. Irrelevant makes this team and will probably be the best Mr. Irrelevant to play a big role on NFL team. Quote mehttps://t.co/RZMysGTx0r#HTTR
