Day 8 Practice Notes: https://t.co/5FWdqs5ohp
Of Saturday's practice, defensive lineman Jonathan Allen said, “We love it. That’s what we do on the offensive line and defensive line. We bang and clang, man." https://t.co/7cy5tFD3Jy

LB Preston Smith had an excellent stop on another play inside the 5-yard line. He set a hard edge vs. TE Jeremy Sprinkle, shed the block and tackled RB Rob Kelley. An excellent play by Smith.

Rookie report: Inside linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton has been calling plays for the No. 2 defense during camp. He's quick to diagnose and react, as was evident on a handful of plays Saturday -- especially on two plays in the red zone in which he helped... https://t.co/Uhx1SmC1EB

Trent Williams participated in full-team work for the first time. Would take the first two reps of each series then be replaced by Ty Nsekhe. Morgan Moses worked early, but someone stepped on his foot; watched rest of the day (still in pads; looks fine so nothing to fret).
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018
Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen said he notices himself doing better coming off the edge this camp. Allen continues to play with a maturity that's hard to find in young players. He plays with good leverage, stays in his lane and knows how to take on... https://t.co/dh7PDYDtMI
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018
#Redskins practice had a lot of short yardage situations today. Lot of work for the running backs. Jonathan Allen called it the most physical day of camp, by far.
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) August 4, 2018
Jonathan Allen says LB Mason Foster is someone he looks up to; says he has a calming effect on the huddle; feels he's a bit under the radar.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018
Jonathan Allen chats with media after practice: “I’m trying to take my game to the next level....” Said he loves Fan Appreciaion Day because 7 years ago HE was the kid on the hill in Ashburn watching training camp. pic.twitter.com/G5O8BMcHC2

Jordan Reed with the quick outside slant left catch and gets OOB.
There has been more hitting, more contact at today’s practice then I can remember in a long time. More than any prax last year for sure.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Nice catch from Quinn. Used his body way better
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Alex Smith bootleg TD run. I think we will actually see that this fall
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Alex Smith is heating up. Nice play on the run to Chris Thompson and then a TD throw to Crowder
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Matt Ioannidis was sitting off to the side for several minutes as he got his right ankle/foot checked by trainer ... #redskins
— Kimberley A. Martin (@ByKimberleyA) August 4, 2018
Out route to Trey Quinn gets broken up by Fabian Moreau. Quinn needs to use his body a bit better to shield that route
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Fabian Moreau having a good day today, running with the 2nd unit.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Has had multiple PDs and hasn't given up a catch yet that I've seen. #Redskins
Defense has been winning the day and Alex Smith hasn’t looked too good. Until the last play- nice deep ball to Crowder for a TD
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Snap four.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Alex Smith 5 step drop back. Good pocket.
Smith goes deep right and hits Crowder in stride ahead of Nicholson. TD.
Crowd likes that one. A lot.#Redskins

Another case of the defense going offsides
Alex Smith steps up but quickly tucks the ball and runs since it's a paddock of space in front of him. #Redskins

— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Alex Smith finds Guice to the left on a wheel.
Small gain before Anderson forces him OOB.
2s coming in now.
Brian Quick making a few plays and Jay Gruden noticed. He shouted “good job Quick, good job. I guess nobody can cover you either.”

Alex Smith looks for Richardson deep but it's a touch too long. Grazes the outstretched fingers of the WR but is incomplete.
Snap two
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
3 step Alex Smith drop back and he fires a quick medium distance pass looking for Crowder, but Crowder can't get to it in time. Incomplete.
For those who asked for it, Martez Carter is fielding punts today. #Redskins
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Short yardage period is live. Guice was good. Kelley the same as Guice. Perine went 1/2, showing the best and worst of what he can do. One carry he didn’t have the burst to make the hole. Another he ran through a DB at the goal line.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) August 4, 2018
Perine with a good power run into Hamilton. Perine wins. Td
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 4, 2018
Full contact goal line drills. Wow. Defense holds from the 1 yard line. Serious hitting. Preston Smith tackles Rob Kelley to stop the 1st team offense.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Snap two
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Guice up the middle again but this time @Mason_Foster stuffs him.
And Foster has no problems letting him know about it. Right in his face at the bottom of the pile.
This is the most energy we've seen at practices this whole camp, by the way.
Today’s practice is definitely the most contact the Redskins have allowed thus far. Rob Kelley and Derrius Guice have both been tackled to the ground #Redskins

Snap three
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Perine tries to go left but Ioannidis crosses the line and smacks him. Perine goes down behind the LOS.
Ioannidis is making a case to be in the training camp MVP conversation. #Redskins

— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Guice up the guts.
Picked up 1 yard. Now it's 4th and 1. #Redskins
Reverse to Paul Richardson and DJ Swearinger blows it up in backfield. Defense looking sharp early today
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 4, 2018
Snap four.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Guice carry right.
Short gain.
Give the stop to Ioannidis and (I think it was) Pernell McPhee#Redskins
Josh Norman just made a leaping interception on a deep ball. Came from other side. Good grab off Smith deep ball for Robert Davis

— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) August 4, 2018
Alex Smith play action deep throw middle.
Josh Norman reads it beautifully and makes the interception falling backwards.
To say Norman was excited after the pick would be underselling it. #Redskins
Kenny Ladler with another play. INT on a fade to Cobbs in one on ones.
