We're ready for the 3rd preseason game of the 2018 season for the Redskins, and Jay Gruden has a new toy to play with tonight. The Redskins are down 4 RBs over the last two weeks, so enter Adrian Peterson into the mix. The former All-Pro will make his debut in the Burgundy and Gold against the Denver Broncos tonight, and should see a healthy number of carries so the team can see what he's got left to offer.
Peterson signed a 1-year veteran minimum deal, but wants to compete for the starting job that is up in the air after Derrius Guice's season-ending ACL injury two weeks ago. Rob Kelley has been the lead dog so far, and Samaje Perine's ankle injury last week hasn't helped his chances to win the position. Is a 33 year old Adrian Peterson better than a "Fit Rob" Kelley?
Jay Gruden has already ruled out Chris Thompson, Jordan Reed, Samaje Perine, Byron Marshall, Maurice Harris, Cam Sims, and Brian Quick. He said Trent Williams should play and Jamison Crowder will warm up and attempt to play. Alex Smith should get more than the one drive he got last week, and will have Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson to throw to(along with a handful of Mason/Brennan hopefuls). Zach Brown has reportedly also said he will not be playing tonight.
