UPDATE: Peterson reportedly signed a 1 year, vet-min deal

He signed for the veterans minimum of $1.015 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

UPDATE: Officially Official

The Redskins will sign Adrian Peterson today pending a physical per multiple sources. The Redskins have been linked to a handful of RBs since 3 more backs were injured against the Jets on Thursday night. Orleans Darkwa, Lenard Tillery, and Jamaal Charles were all expected to visit the Redskins.

Adrian Peterson's name was added late on Sunday, with a visit scheduled for today. He got a glowing recommendation from former Oklahoma teammate Trent Williams. Peterson texted Williams after Derrius Guice was injured and expressed interest in the Redskins.

“I don’t understand the stigma when people get 31, 32, 33 -- they somehow just slow down. You don’t. That’s a gifted athlete, you know? He has a gift. Did Darrell Green ever lose his speed? He didn’t. Some things are just always with you. It’s you, it’s your makeup, it’s your DNA. ... So, no, he’s the same athlete that you’re used to seeing.”

Jay Gruden said the Redskins weren't looking for a starter in free agency. The Redskins still have Rob Kelley, Kapri Bibbs. and Chris Thompson practicing. Samaje Perine will reportedly miss a few weeks with an ankle sprain. Byron Marshall's ankle injury could cause him to miss more time, and Gruden said the team will explore their options there. Martez Carter was waived injured with a leg injury.

Peterson is 33 and will reportedly sign a 1 year deal with the Redskins. He spent last year with the Arizona Cardinals where he started 6 games. He had 448 yards on 129 carries with 1 TD. Peterson will join the Skins backfield as a veteran RB fighting for a spot. No details have been released about the contract. The Redskins likely didn't include any guaranteed money, and can cut him before Week 1 if he is not a fit with what the team needs.
