The Mason/Brennan Preseason Hype! Award has been given out unofficially by the fans for years to each preseason's most hyped players, but now we've made it official, and will bring it to a vote.
This week's vote counts the hype heading into the Redskins preseason Week 2 game against the Jets. The two teams shared the practice field for the last three days that saw brawls and formers Redskins players getting punked. Place your vote for who you feel has been the most hyped player up to this point, whether the hype is deserved or not.
The Rules:
1. Player must have been drafted late or signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Players that have only been on other teams practice squads that are signed by the team are also eligible.
2. A player that has been on the team for several years is still eligible if most of that time has been spent on the practice squad, inactive, or with very limited productivity/time
How have past Mason/Brennan winners done in thr NFL after receiving this glorious award?
Offseason Mason/Brennan Winner: WR Trey Quinn (49%)
Quick list this (busy) week
The Candidates:
RB Byron Marshall
Derrius Guice's ACL on Thursday night was a huge blow to the Redskins. His loss opens up a spot for one of the guys fighting for a spot. Byron Marshall is BIGGER!, FASTER!, STRONGER! And Chris Thompson said he could learn a few thing from him.
First true 3rd down RB rep goes to Byron Marshall who absolutely walloped a DL and then picked up a blitzer. That's how you make the squad.

Was more impressed by Marshall's this pass protection than the TD. McCoy motions him up to fill in the A gap, chips C's block on his way to pick up his block. Good, aggressive pass pro, buys McCoy time to find Davis. Will get Marshall bigger props from coaches than TD #Redskins pic.twitter.com/6bwDXyQmA7

RB Kapri Bibbs
Bibbs seems like the 5th man in a 4 man rotation, but he can make plays in the preseason that will change some minds, and make some fans.
This was a nice run by Kapri Bibbs on a wide zone to the left. Some nice patience and adjustments to find the holes and work into the secondary. pic.twitter.com/xyYEsLpZP7

IMO...Kapri Bibbs is the best pure runner they have left on the roster. #Redskins #Skins #HTTR

CB Greg Stroman
The Stroman wasn’t getting much hype in training camp, but took the field last Thursday to get his name out there. Stroman returned punts and played the most snaps, earning PFF’s top grade on defense for the Redskins. With the release of Orlando Scandrick, the young bucks in the secondary are getting a major hype boost from Jay Gruden.

Greg Stroman gets the #Redskins off the field for the 2nd time in two drives. This time with a pass breakup.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 10, 2018
#Redskins winner #2: Greg Stroman. Stroman is a bubble player after the drafting of Alexander and emergence of Johnson, but he showed very well both on defense and on his punt return. Being a punt returner alone could keep him on the roster & he showed better in coverage as well.

CB Danny Johnson
Hype monster! Danny Johnson has been that guy that people keep mentioning, but no one pays attention to until you see it with your own eyes. Johnson’s making a strong case for the Mason/Brennan this week, and the roster this year.
Danny Johnson just keeps showing up too

DJ Swearinger on the #Redskins’ young DBs: “They can lock it up.”

Veteran CB mentions Danny Johnson by name. pic.twitter.com/CTcpxCvbmW
DB Adonis Alexander
Alexander has been injured, hasn’t done much of note in camp, and didn’t play against the Patriots. Has that stopped his hype, and Jay Gruden from mentioning him following the Scrandrick release? Absolutely not! You can’t spend a 6th round pick next year, and just give up on a physical specimen like Adonis can you?
Jay Gruden at the podium now. Mentions Adonis Alexander, Danny Johnson and the emergence of Moreau at nickel factored into the decision to release Scandrick so he can find a new team before the season starts. #Redskins

WR Maurice Harris
He continues get hyped as the best WR in practice, training camp MVP, and a lock for the roster. Big Mo is pushing for the award again this week.

ILB Shaun Dion Hamilton
The late round steal who is the future captain of the Redskins defense made his debut against the Patriots. He led the team in tackles and defensive stops, and makes his case for the M/B crown.

All Shaun-Dion Hamilton does is make tackles. He's around the ball all the time.

WR Cam Sims
Cam Sims was just the big WR in camp until he started making plays vs the Patriots. With the unfortunate injury to Robert Davis, Sims hype is going to skyrocket through the rest of preseason.
