Redskins DE Matt Ioannidis will reportedly miss 2-3 weeks due to a knee injury he suffered in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Patriots. Ioannidis was having a great year last season before fracturing his hand and then returning to the field with a club. He is expected to be a key player along the Redskins defensive line again this season, and showed why last night with a sack before leaving with the knee injury.
The Redskins are already fighting the injury bug that hit them hard last season. Jay Gruden said he wouldn't have kept Ioannidis in as long as he did, but their DL depth was thin. The Redskins have Stacey McGee on the PUP list after groin surgery, and 1st round rookie DaRon Payne just got out of the walking boot he was wearing for an ankle injury suffered in camp. And we all know about Derrius Guice by now...
The Redskins open the season 4 weeks from Sunday on 9/9 against the Arizona Cardinals. If this timeline is accurate, that will be the next time you see Ioannidis on the field.
