Redskins players and coaches held the first day of training camp in Richmond, VA yesterday. Day 2 of practices starts today at 9:45am.
Alex Smith held his first training camp presser as the starting QB of the Redskins yesterday. Colt McCoy got a contract extension. Several players coming back from injuries returned to practice yesterday including Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, Trent Williams and others. Josh Doctson appeared to be fine after a precautionary MRI on his Achilles gave fans flashbacks to his lost rookie season.
The big injury scare of the day came from ILB Zach Brown who left the field and spent time in the trainers tent. The Redskins announced that he is day to day after suffering a quad strain. Brown said it was "Just a little wet out there" and he would be back today. Second year guard Tyler Catalina also left the field with a trainer after he got rolled up during a play.
Practice Notes, Day 2. Get 'em while they're hot.

Rookie report: Fifth-round pick Tim Settle appeared to have a strong practice Friday morning. He displayed strength vs. starting center Chase Roullier in full-team work, twice moving him back. Roullier did well vs. him in the one-on-ones. Settle's... https://t.co/XjdEONBMII

RB Kapri Bibbs in a battle to be Chris Thompson's backup along with Byron Marshall had a fumble. The rock was punched out. May have been late. Not sure. Either way, hold onto the football. #Redskins
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) July 27, 2018
Anthony Lanier put major heat on Alex Smith on a play-action boot from left to right and chased him all the waydown the line, pressuring him into an incompletion. Lanier didn't hit Smith but clearly looked like the pressure affected the accuracy of the throw. #Redskins

A few quick observations: The defense has a LOT of energy right now; rookie CB Greg Stroman had a couple nice breakups, but must be careful with his hands (some jersey tugs); Derrius Guice signs every autograph; Team is rotating their backs so a different starter each day.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 27, 2018
Injury updates: Ryan Anderson (back spasms) and Rob Kelley (heat related) are day-to-day.

Talked w Daron Payne, he was very clear that he’s ok.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) July 27, 2018
“I’m good”
Daron Payne is still limping as practice is over. He said his ankle was okay.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) July 27, 2018
Couple young guys, Quin Blanding and Kennedy Ladler staying after with Norman playing some jump ball games. Norman never stops. He’ll sign autographs for an hour after an extra hour of work on the field. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/sW4LYkW68Y
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
Stroman got the best of Quinn in 11v11, breaking up two slants. Swearinger would’ve had a sack coming off the weak side and he let Jay and the offense no it-‘don’t even throw the ball!!’ He picked off the Next pass...’Alex...gotta learn your receivers!’ #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
Early leader to be the preseason hero? Shay Fields (16). Great rapport with McCoy, who throws his way a ton in 7v7 and 11v11 sessions. Backup QBs’ favorite targets always shine in August. #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
Stroman getting grilled by Torrian Gray. Kept him in all 3 sub rotations and has been hard on him. High standards for his VT guys. #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
VD just grabbed a 40 yard post for a TD over Nicholson. Crowd goes nuts, Nicholson strung together some impressive words. Guice has caught everything thrown at him in 7 on 7, including an overthrown wheel. #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
Mr. Irrelevant Trey Quinn has been returning both kicks and punts in camp. Marshall, Bibbs on KR and Crowder/Stroman back on punts. #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
#Redskins practicing significantly more press on the outside this year compared to years past. Makes sense, it’s the strength of Norman and Dunny and if they can get a consistent push, toughest for QB to get the ball out.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
‘Stay low Adonis!!!’ You got all that length and you’re wasting it!!!’ -Torrian Gray to A Alexander. He’s been tough on him to start camp. #Redskins
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) July 27, 2018
Fabian Moreau just made a nice play. Colt McCoy took a deep shot into double coverage to Trey Quinn and Moreau turned back to deflect the ball as it arrived.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) July 27, 2018
Swearinger almost with another diving interception. He threw his helmet off immediately afterward and taunted the offense. #Redskins

Nice diving INT from DJ Swearinger. And he enjoyed letting the offense know about it

The Redskins like to rotate in their defensive linemen, but fifth-rounder Tim Settle was working with the first team. Lined up next to Jonathan Allen

Trent Williams and Morgan Moses are participating kian 11 on 11 work. A good sign. #Redskins
— Rich Tandler (@TandlerNBCS) July 27, 2018
Anthony Lanier has had a good period in this 1 on 1. Been giving it to the OL with power and speed. #Redskins
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) July 27, 2018
Both Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne are winning their 1v1 matchups on O-Line v D-Line. Bergstrom got pancaked by Payne on one rep. #Redskins #RedskinsCapitalConnection #HTTR @ChadwikoRCC
— Chip Brierre (@Chip_Brierre) July 27, 2018
Daron Payne is an animal plain and simple. He has a chance to cause some serious problems for o-lines this year. He plays with a nasty demeanor. #Redskins
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) July 27, 2018
Good gracious Tim Settle just blew up Casey Dunn. Pancaked the center. #redskins

Some 7 on 7 work, and it's increasingly clear the Alex Smith likes Jamison Crowder.

Martez Carter, the guy Chris Thompson told me would be the preseason stand out, looks fast and slippery in 11 on 11s with the 3rd team.

Tricky guy to get hands on as a defender.

Second team in now.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) July 27, 2018
First play a pass to the flats out right to Guice, who snatches it and quick cuts upfield. Nice gain. Nice footwork.
Scandrick and Norman the starting CB’s in base. Harvey-Clemons is next to Foster at ILB with Brown limited.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 27, 2018
Interesting. In the first team rep, Byron Marshall was lined up in the backfield. Gruden said earlier how important it was to have someone else on the roster with Thompson’s skill set, in case Thompson gets hurt again
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) July 27, 2018
Alright here we go.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) July 27, 2018
11 on 11s.
Byron Marshall the first RB in.
Play 1 a play action. Smith would have been sacked by Kerrigan though.
Zach Brown taking part in individual drills. Just stopped by the medical tent to get his left quad taped up and sprinted back out to the field. #Redskins

Always a favorite. Some highlights;
Crowder juked Dunbar nicely on a comeback.
Josh Norman beat Trey Quinn easily.
Adonis vs Richardson was physical as hell. Ball hit the turf.
Doctson made a pretty catch vs Prince.#Redskins
