Mel Kiper, Jr. and Todd McShay are back with another mock draft less than a week from Day 1 of this year's draft on Thursday night in Dallas. This mock on E$PN IN$IDER has the two mockers taking turns making picks for the first 3 rounds, and selecting the players they would take if they were the GMs of each team.
Mel Kiper gets the first pick for the Redskins at #13 and goes back to the well for Alabama DT Da'Ron Payne. Kiper also gave the Skins Payne in his Grade A mock draft, after giving them Vita Vea previously. Kiper has Payne rated higher than Vea, and reports say the Redskins may as well.
Kiper’s pick: Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama
It was nose tackle all the way, and I have Payne rated a little higher than Vita Vea. Washington could be in the mix if one of the top defensive backs falls.
Next 10 picks:
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama
Lamar Jackson, QB, Louisville
D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland
Vita Vea, DT, Washington
Will Hernandez, G, UTEP
Rashaan Evans, LB, Alabama
James Daniels, C, Iowa
Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA
Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
Todd McShay gets the Redskins 2nd round pick and upgrades the line on the other side of the ball. Many consider Billy Price one of the top interior OL options in this draft, but an unfortunate pec injury while lifting at this year's NFL Combine has clouded his draft stock. He will reportedly be ready by training camp, and could easily still go in the 1st round.
If he is still there at #44 he would be an excellent pick for the Redskins, and another value pick that dropped due to injury. The Redskins like Chase Roullier, their 6th round pick last year who started 7 games in place of injured former starter Spencer Long.
Roullier can be moved to guard or become a solid backup if Price comes in and earns the starting center job. Price is a leader and could be a big piece on the Redskins line for years to come.
McShay’s pick: Billy Price, C/G, Ohio State
Price is only available here because he tore his pec at the combine. He’d fill a hole at center or guard for Washington.
Next 10 picks:
Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado
Austin Corbett, C/G, Nevada
D.J. Chark, WR, LSU
Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon
Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU
Harrison Phillips, DT, Stanford
Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan
Orlando Brown, OT, Oklahoma
Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State
Lorenzo Carter, OLB, Georgia
