Mel Kiper and Todd McShay go 3 rounds for the Redskins in their Grade A Mock Draft

The Redskins get help on both sides of the ball

NCAA Football: CFP National Championship Game-Alabama vs Georgia Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Mel Kiper, Jr and Todd McShay have each put out a 3 round, Grade A mock draft over the last two days. McShay's was featured yesterday in our mock draft roundup. He seems dead-set on giving the Redskins a DT in the first round and a WR in the 2nd this year.

ESPN's mock draft poster boys did a 2 round, dueling mock recently that saw McShay pick Vita Vea again in the 1st round, but D.J. Chark was his WR of choice a week ago. Kiper's mock received 58% of the votes to McShay's 16%. The people prefer a RB over a WR in the 2nd round, and the Redskins probably do as well.

Todd McShay's 3 Round Grade A Mock Draft

(13): Vita Vea, DT, Washington

Round 2 (44): Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

Vea is another physical freak, who hasn’t gotten a chance to show off during this postseason process because of injury. He’d fit well with last year’s first-round pick Jonathan Allen on the defensive line. Kirk is dynamic with the ball in his hands and provides another weapon for new QB Alex Smith. Washington’s third-round pick was part of the deal with Kansas City to acquire Smith this offseason.

Mel Kiper has the Redskins also going defensive line in the 1st round, but switched his pick up to Da’Ron Payne from Alabama this week. There have been a lot of rumors for weeks now that the Redskins have a preference for Payne over Vea, and the Washington DT falls to #17 in Kiper’s mock because of it.

McShay has his eyes on WR in the 2nd, but Kiper believes the Redskins recognize their need for a talented RB early in this year's loaded draft class. San Diego State's Rashaad Penny got the nod last week, and now it's Georgia's Sony Michel's turn in this mock. The Redskins get Michel with Penny, RB Nick Chubb, CB Isaiah Oliver, C/G Billy Price and other talented players still on the board.

Round 1 (13): Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama

Round 2 (44): Sony Michel, RB, Georgia

Payne addresses the Redskins’ biggest 2017 weakness: Run defense. He could end up at nose tackle. Michel would give them a dynamic, every-down back. I’m not sold on Rob Kelley or Samaje Perine. Michel and former teammate Nick Chubb are battling with USC’s Ronald Jones II to be the third running back picked, likely early on Day 2.
