The Redskins have officially made an offer to free agent Pernell McPhee. The former Ravens and Bears OLB visited the team on Monday along with DT Johnathan Hankins(left w/o a deal), and CB Orlando Scandrick(signed 2 year, $10m deal).
McPhee will provide veteran depth behind starters Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith if he comes to terms with Washington. Ryan Anderson was drafted in the 2nd round last year and will likely be the 4th OLB on the roster again this season unless he shows more in his 2nd year.
McPhee(6’3”, 269lbs, 29yo) has dealt with knee and shoulder injuries in the last two of his three years with the Bears. He signed a 5 year, $38.75 milion contract with the Bears in 2015. He played in 36 games, with 14 sacks, 90 tackles, and 3 forced fumbles.
The Redskins have also made at least one contract offer to their own free agent OLB, Junior Galette. The deal was reportedly low, and Galette has not been happy with his offer compared to what others, including former Redskins OLB Trent Murphy, are getting in free agency. Galette played his first season in the three years he's been in Washington and showed signs of what made him a top pass rusher as he got more time on the field.
The Galette offer was low and laughable compared to what others who didn’t play much last year got.
