Washington Redskins Free Agency Rumors: Spencer Long has strong market, not expected to re-sign

The Redskins aren’t expected to re-sign C/OG Spencer Long

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Washington Redskins Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

It has already been reported that the Redskins could be moving on from free agent Guard/Center Spencer Long this offseason. The team drated Chase Roullier in the 6th round last year, and were impressed with him early. When Long suffered a quad injury that eventually put him on IR, Roullier stepped into the starting role.

Long started his career with the Redskins as a guard, but they were looking to upgrade the position and also had a need at the center position. Kory Lichtensteiger’s injury in Week 3 of the 2016 season gave him the starting position for the rest of the year. He did well in his move to center, and was considered a possible long-term solution at the position. Roullier made it possible for the Redskins to move on, but they also still have a need at LG with Shawn Lauvao also a pending free agent.

Jason La Canfora also reports the Redskins are working to retain their free agents. We already know that the Redskins offered a new deal to OLB Trent Murphy. They offered ILB Zach Brown a contract during the season last year, but he is looking for more guaranteed money and is expected to move on. The Redskins have already signed or tendered several of their free agents, but have a few more they would like to lock up before free agency officially starts tomorrow at 4pm.
