Redskins Free Agency: Muhammad Wilkerson to visit Washington

A free agent visit by the former Jets DL is scheduled for this week

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at New York Jets William Hauser-USA TODAY Sports

Add the Washington Redskins to the visit list for former New York Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson. He was released by the Jets on February 28, and is reportedly visiting the Chiefs, his third free agent meeting (also met with the Packers and Saints).

Jason la Canfora is reporting Wilkerson will meet the Redskins soon if he leaves Kansas City without a contract. Washington is looking to improve their DL and Wilkerson is a talented player, but comes with some red flags.

The Jets cut him last week two years into a five-year, $86 million contract so something was going on there. Wilkerson was reported to have shown up late to meetings with the Jets so he’ll have to show free agent teams how dedicated he is. Or he’ll just have to be so good teams put up with showing up late.

The Redskins have one of the best DL coaches in the NFL with Jim Tomsula, and a seemingly good locker room right now. If Wilkerson joins Washington, their DL becomes more talented. Wilkerson would join Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Stacy McGee, and Anthony Lanier to make a very respectable DL.

The Redskins aren't likely to sign Wilkerson at the contract he is currently looking for, but anything is possible. Washington is reportedly looking for younger, cheaper players, but exceptions can always be made for talent if the value is right. The Redskins will also be in position to get one of the top DL in this year's draft at #13.
