I'm told the #Redskins have interest in re-signing LB Zach Brown and CB Bashaud Breeland. One team source told me, "obviously it has to be at the right price." My understanding is that Brown wants to be compensated "like a top 3 ILB." Brown led the league in tackles through Wk14.

The Redskins have a large group of free agents this year, and have two weeks to either make some deals or let them test the market. They’ve already re-signed Quinton Dunbar and Mason Foster. Kirk Cousins is gone after the team made a trade for Alex Smith that also shipped CB Kendall Fuller to the Chiefs. There are still some big names on the list that could help Washington next season.
Josina Anderson reports that the team has interest in re-signing two of the biggest names of the Redskins list of free agents. There have already been reports about the Redskins interest in bringing back Zach Brown, but the price would be a deal-breaker if he wants to get paid like a top ILB($10+mil/yr). That’s reportedly what is happening, and could lead to Brown walking next month. The Redskins could use Brown’s athleticism and sure-tackling next season, but that price tag will force them to look at cheaper options.
Martrell Spaight is returning for another season as a backup. Will Compton is also a free agent, and the team could re-sign him, but hasn’t yet. Zach Vigil was signed in the middle of November, and he played in 36% of the teams defensive snaps. The Redskins can also look to this year’s draft in April to try to find another option at ILB.
It looked like the Redskins were going to let Bashaud Breeland test free agency, and not make a hard push to re-sign him. Then Kendall Fuller was traded, and Washington’s depth at CB got a little thinner. Breeland has been a good value for the Redskins since being taken in the 4th round of the 2014 draft. He has started at least 14 games for the team every year. Breeland has had his share of inconsistencies, but has been a very good CB overall. The question with him is again going to be the price and the value he brings to the team.
The Redskins have 3 more years of a very expensive Josh Norman contract. Breeland sees himself as a top CB, and will look to get paid after making less than $1 mil/yr on his rookie deal. There have been reports about Josh Norman being unhappy, and the Redskins possibly looking to move him, but those are just rumors at this point. The Redskins could look to move on from him next season, but barring another team making a big offer, he will be on the team this season. If Breeland looks to get $10+ mil/yr, the Redskins have other younger, cheaper options on the roster like Fabian Moreau and Joshua Holsey, and can look to the draft and free agency for depth. Breeland and Brown should be re-signed, but only if the money is right for both sides.
UPDATE: The Redskins discussed a deal during the season in the $7.5-9 mil/yr range for Zach Brown, but he is looking for $10+ mil/yr.
Here is my update on #Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry whose rep is still scheduled to meet “this evening” with the #Dolphins, I’m told. @AdamSchefter reported last week it was set for Wednesday. Also more in talks b/w the #Redskins & LB Zach Brown. pic.twitter.com/ix79i72nT4
