Over the next few weeks we plan on breaking down all of Alex Smith’s starts from 2017 – pass by pass, scenario by scenario. I got this idea while drinking a few adult sodas with my friend Pete who is a legitimate football savant when it comes to watching film, evaluating quarterback play and diagramming plays. He’s a private passing coach now, but his notorious football odyssey started as an Elite 11 quarterback in 2006 with Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Mallett and has led to training with some of the best athletes in the NFL today.
This first episode which covers week 1 is about an hour long because I ask Pete to break down some key concepts and philosophies behind a few of the recurring plays we’ll be seeing this year. The following episodes/games will be maxed at 35 minutes (depending on how much Ken wants to drone on). We’ll be bringing in guest experts who are former pros, coaches, and evaluators and we’ll be able to incorporate your feedback with questions or comments as well. We recorded this first one sort of haphazardly as the idea arose but we’ll be stepping up the quality when we move to the 1st Amendment Sports studios in lovely Kensington, Maryland (Ken’s basement).
Enjoy and let us know what you think. We go over pretty much every offensive play, draw on the plays like John Madden and we compare Alex and Kirk throughout.
