You've been waiting for Redskins news. Here goes.— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) December 31, 2018
TE JP Holtz signed a contract thru 2020, per source.
The Redskins signed a fullback! J.P. Holtz gets the call in Week 17 after Maurice Harris was placed on IR for a concussion. Holtz made a name for himself with his blocking for Adrian Peterson in the preseason, and has been working with the team on the practice squad.
”[Holtz] made a key block on [the big fourth-down run] and gave me a two-way go,” he said. “If you have guys who can do that, put him out there, because I know he’ll hit it fast and lock on his guy. That’s a lot better for running backs.”
The Redskins are also short on TEs going into tomorrow's season finale against the Eagles. Jordan Reed was placed on IR this week with toe and ankle injuries. Vernon Davis is listed as doubtful with a concussion and won't play. That leaves Washington with #3 TE Jeremy Sprinkle, and Matt Flanagan who was just recently signed from the practice squad. Holtz gets a little pay bump before the end of the year, and a chance to block for an AP TD.
