A young boy from my hometown has recently been told he has only weeks to live after battling cancer for about 8 years. A morning I’ll never forget, walking into my bedroom with tears in my eyes, looking at my then fiancé, and simply saying, “He’s gone”. It may sound silly because I didn’t know the guy, but it hits home when you bleed Burgundy and Gold. Gone, but never forgotten, R.I.P. 21 #HTTR pic.twitter.com/w7YwXfI2Vn

Sean Taylor died on this day in 2007. This SportsCenter excerpt from @LRiddickESPN (who was involved in scouting and drafting Taylor) is the best analysis I've ever heard about what kind of player he was. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/69YRr4y9VK

Reuben Foster Waiver Watch in one hour. I'm guessing he goes unclaimed, with too much yet unknown about his transgression and risk of suspension.
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) November 27, 2018
Washington was the only team to put in a waiver claim for former 49ers’ LB Reuben Foster, who was arrested Saturday night on a domestic violence charge, per source. No other NFL team put in a waiver claim on Foster.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 27, 2018
Foster was arrested on Sunday evening at the 49ers team hotel on charges of domestic violence. He was in jail during the team’s game on Sunday. He was released Sunday morning.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) November 27, 2018
It was Foster’s second DV charge. The victim recanted the first set of accusations.
A statement from the Washington Redskins Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Doug Williams: pic.twitter.com/zdxA8hmWtb
— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) November 27, 2018
The later, revised statement:
STATEMENT BY WASHINGTON REDSKINS
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT
OF PLAYER PERSONNEL DOUG WILLIAMS:
”Today we have claimed the rights to LB Reuben Foster. The Redskins fully understand the severity of the recent allegations made against Reuben. If true, you can be sure these allegations are nothing our organization would ever condone. Let me be clear, Reuben will have to go through numerous steps including the full legal process, an investigation and potential discipline from the NFL, as well as meetings with counselors associated with the team before he will ever have the opportunity to wear the Burgundy and Gold as a player. That being said, we decided to investigate the situation with Reuben further by claiming his rights after candid conversations with a number of his ex-Alabama teammates and current Redskins players who were overwhelmingly supportive of us taking this chance. Nothing is promised to Reuben, but we are hopeful being around so many of his former teammates and friends will eventually provide him with the best possible environment to succeed both personally and professionally.”

The Redskins have a lot of belief in the young Bama guys on their roster. And those guys believe in Foster. https://t.co/LYSQcmqibz

I knew the Bama teammates angle was coming in their statement the moment he was claimed.

How and when did it all fly off the rails for Reuben Foster here in Tampa this weekend? Like Foster’s history, the answer — and the details behind the weekend’s tumult — are much more complex than many acknowledge.

The league wasted no time placing Reuben Foster on paid leave on the commissioner's exempt list after the Redskins claimed him off waivers. This is the list that the NFL used to keep Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson off the field in 2014.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) November 27, 2018
This was inevitable and the #Redskins went into it fully aware this would be part of the normal investigative process. https://t.co/ijntj4dsCs
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) November 27, 2018
Hearing from one tapped in #Redskins source that there was a split opinion (not a surprise) on decision to claim Foster. Don't know who ultimately made the final decision.
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) November 27, 2018
Plan for the future. Former 1st round pick w low contract & multiple year contract.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) November 28, 2018
The amount of work that needs to go into this investigation, the amount of work Foster has to do on himself, and the amount of work the team needs to do to help him is massive.
Sure, #Alabama.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) November 28, 2018
Sure, #Redskins liked Foster during draft process.
This is above and beyond all that. This is different. This is bigger than football.
.@PFF gave Reuben Foster an overall grade of 90.7 for 2017. Best among rookie linebackers, fourth among all linebackers.
— Jackson Didlake (@diidlake) November 27, 2018
Claimed on waivers from the #49ers today, the #Redskins will assume LB Reuben Foster at non-guaranteed salaries/cap hits of $257k, $1.2M, & $1.6M, w/ an option available for 2021. https://t.co/IRrfMRsXIZ
— Spotrac (@spotrac) November 27, 2018
The reason the team does this now instead of waiting for the legal process has everything to do with the contract.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) November 27, 2018
If they don’t claim him, his contract is gone. They would have to sign him to a less team friendly (or shorter) deal and would have to compete with others.
In claiming Foster, the #Redskins retain his rights which includes his rookie contract. He was a first round pick and thus has a four year deal with a fifth year option.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) November 27, 2018
Doug Williams says Reuben Foster not playing until the whole sitch gets sorted out. We won't see him suit up this season. Claimed contract goes through at least 2020.
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) November 27, 2018
The NFL can and should have been in front of this. Once he was cut, should have gone straight to commish list. No waivers until resolution of case/suspension.

We all know the NFL won't let the Redskins have Reuben Foster. Guaranteed he's banished from the league now.

If he was a Cowboy he'd be ready to play on Sunday. #BigFacts #Redskins
I am a little surprised Redskins are taking a chance on Foster. It’s high reward if everything works out but a huge PR hit if it doesn’t. What are your thoughts on the move?
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) November 28, 2018
Jay Gruden & Bruce Allen would rather claim a player like Reuben Foster than sign a player like Colin Kaepernick.

Fascinating that teams are so afraid of blowback to Kaepernick that nobody will touch him, but obviously don't fear strong enough backlash over a player repeatedly involved with domestic violence. What does that say about us as fans, esp. if the team is calculating correctly?
— Judy Battista (@judybattista) November 27, 2018
It feels sort of gross to sign a player with these accusations against them on the Anniversary of Taylor’s passing. We should be remembering Sean, not debating morals/ethics of football and the player

- Star DB criticised team preparation
- Star RB accused of hitting his kid again
- Claimed accused domestic violence aggressor off waivers

Two-point conversion attempts produce very slightly more points than extra point attempts: 0.99 points per two-point conversion try and 0.95 points per extra point try. So why do all 32 teams kick as the default?
