UPDATE: Officially Official

Ben Standig first reported that the Redskins are expected to release DL Ziggy Hood. His agent Andy Ross confirmed that his client will be released. The Redskins have spent the last three drafts upgrading their defensive line, and the results are paying off with the play and leadership from guys like Matt Ioannidis, Jonathan Allen, and DaRon Payne. The Redskins also drafted Tim Settle in the 5th round this year.

Ziggy Hood being forced to play nose tackle for too long due to the lack of viable options. The fact the Redskins are able to move on from Hood and the vet presence he brought to the team is a very good sign for the young linemen on the team. Hood has only played 49 snaps on defense and 19 on special teams over 5 games this season. The Redskins also have Caleb Brantley, who has been inactive every game this year on the team.

There has been no word on a corresponding roster move, but the Redskins worked out several defensive backs this week. Stacy McGee and Joshua Holsey are also eligible to start practicing this week.
