Ben Standig first reported that the Redskins are expected to release DL Ziggy Hood. His agent Andy Ross confirmed that his client will be released. The Redskins have spent the last three drafts upgrading their defensive line, and the results are paying off with the play and leadership from guys like Matt Ioannidis, Jonathan Allen, and DaRon Payne. The Redskins also drafted Tim Settle in the 5th round this year.
Redskins expected to release DL Ziggy Hood, per source.

Ziggy Hood being forced to play nose tackle for too long due to the lack of viable options. The fact the Redskins are able to move on from Hood and the vet presence he brought to the team is a very good sign for the young linemen on the team. Hood has only played 49 snaps on defense and 19 on special teams over 5 games this season. The Redskins also have Caleb Brantley, who has been inactive every game this year on the team.
Ziggy Hood thanks the fans
There has been no word on a corresponding roster move, but the Redskins worked out several defensive backs this week. Stacy McGee and Joshua Holsey are also eligible to start practicing this week.
Redskins worked out the following on Monday: DB Donatello Brown, DB Tony Lippett, DB Raysean Pringle, DB Henre Toliver, DB Marquez White.... Danny Johnson fractured his right arm Sunday. Thinks he can play with padded cast. But skins clearly looking at options.

Since it's now Week 7, Stacy McGee comes off the PUP list. He had to sit out the first 6 weeks of the season. He now has 3 weeks of practice time before #Redskins have to make a decision

Also: Josh Holsey eligible to resume practicing this week as well. Skins worked out several corners Monday with Danny Johnson... I would not assume it's either Johnson or McGee. Skins need help in a few areas (interior OL too)...

I'm hearing McGee could be activated as soon as Week 7 barring setback/circumstances.

The Hood release sounds like for another position hit by injuries. https://t.co/kr5YSoqmkm
