The 5 o’clock club aims to provide a forum for reader-driven discussion at a time of day when there isn’t much NFL news being published. Feel free to introduce topics that interest you in the comments below.

So, Joe Jacoby has again made it to the 15 modern-era finalists for the Hall of Fame.

After going undrafted back in the days when the NFL draft was about 18 rounds, Jacoby became the most dominant offensive tackle of his generation, appearing in 21 playoff games and winning 3 championships.

Jacoby was a monster at 6’7” and 295 pounds in an era when offensive linemen were not the gargantuans they are now. Jacoby was a mauler who helped lead the Redskins to 3 super bowl titles. He went to 4 pro bowls, and was twice named first team all-pro. Jacoby was named to the NFL all-Decade team of the 1980s, and was named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins by the franchise.

It’s criminal that Jerry Jones has a gold jacket and Jacoby does not. Let’s hope that the voters stuff the ballot box for this founding member of the Hogs, and the lead blocker on John Riggins’ most famous running play. The clock is ticking for Jake, and the Redskin legacy in the Hall of Fame is incomplete. If Jacoby is not selected in 2018, he will be moved out of the Modern-Era category and into the senior group, since he will have been out of the game for 25 years. This should be his year.

It would be great to see Jacoby and Bobby Beathard on the same stage for the 2018 induction ceremony.
