The Redskins have told TE Derek Carrier they will release him if they can't trade him, per source.

Derek Carrier is the odd man out in the TE battle for the Washington Redskins. Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Niles Paul, and rookie Jeremy Sprinkle are all likely to make the team now. The Redskins have been trying to trade Derek Carrier, but haven’t been able to get a deal done. Now, barring a last minute trade, he will be released.
The Redskins acquired Carrier from the San Francisco 49ers in 2015, swapping a 5th round pick this year for the 49ers 7th round pick. Carrier tore his ACL/MCL in his first season with the Redskins, and started the following season on the PUP list. He was activated late last season. Carrier had 19 receptions for 151 yards and 1 TD with the Redskins.
