The Redskins are releasing 2nd-year QB Nate Sudfeld according to multiple reports. Sudfeld made the 53-man roster last season but was inactive the entire season. The Redskins are cutting him today in the hopes that he will clear waivers and get signed to the team’s 10-man practice squad. There is a slight chance that another QB-needy team will put a claim in for him, but it still remains likely he lands on Washington’s practice squad.
Now the Redskins will enter the season with 2 QBs on the roster, starter Kirk Cousins and backup Colt McCoy. Cousins is playing on his 2nd consecutive franchise tag, and his future in Washington is uncertain after this season. McCoy is playing in the second year of a 3 year contract, and has been with the team since 2014. The Redskins could add another QB, but for now it’s a two-man show.
