The 5 O'Clock Club: Should Redskins fans start buying season tickets again?

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere...

The 5 o’clock club aims to provide a forum for reader-driven discussion at a time of day when there isn’t much NFL news being published. Feel free to introduce topics that interest you in the comments below.

When I still lived in the U.S. (back in the last millenium, in the early 1990s) the Redskins franchise was known for one thing above all — its string of consecutive home sellouts and it’s waiting list for season tickets. Season tickets were proudly held inside of families, and there were stories of fathers bequeathing to sons in their wills.

That legacy hasn’t been true for a long time now, and a lot of people have said that as long as Dan Snyder isn’t putting a great product on the field, fans should vote with their wallets by not buying tickets or Redskins merchandise.

What’s the ‘State of the Franchise’ in 2017?

Should fans continue to boycott season tickets, a practice that often results in having as many opposing fans in the stands at FedEx Field as Redskin supporters?

Or should the fans get out and support a team that has put together back-to-back winning seasons, that has drafted well, that appears to be committed to player development, and seems ready to compete at least for the division title?

What does Dan Snyder need to do, and what does the front office need to do to win back the support of Redskins fans?

Did the handling of the Scot McCloughan termination leave you disgruntled?

Did the promotion of Doug Williams -- a former Redskin who threw 4 TD passes in the second quarter of the Super Bowl -- give you a warm feeling and fill you with pride?

Does Bruce Allen make your blood boil?

Does the prospect of a third franchise tag for Kirk Cousins have you scratching your head?

Or have back-to-back winning seasons, a contract extension for the head coach, Jonathan Allen in the first round, and new hires like Jim Tomsula and Torrian Gray reignited your passion for and belief in the franchise?

Do you feel that the players on the field deserve a home field advantage?

Will a new stadium to replace FedEx Field make a difference, or are the days of the rockin’ stands in RFK gone, never to be seen again?

What needs to happen before you’re ready to open your wallet for this franchise again?

When is the right time for Redskins fans to again start buying burgundy & gold jerseys and season tickets?
