Redskins place Trent Murphy on IR, sign WR Jamari Staples

The Redskins add a WR to their injured receiving group

Outside linebacker Trent Murphy was officially placed on injured reserve today. Murphy tore his ACL/MCL in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Murphy was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and coming off his best season with the Redskins. He was also entering a year where he would miss 4 games due to a PED policy violation. His four game suspension will be served while he is on injured reserve this season. He will be a free agent next offseason coming off an ACL injury and suspension who could look for a 1 year deal to increase his value.

The Redskins also added WR Jamari Staples(6'3", 195 lbs), an undrafted free agent who ran a 4.51 40 yard dash at the Combine. He played two years at Louisville after starting his college career at UAB for two seasons. At Louisville he caught 73 passes for 1253 yards and 5 TDs. Staples was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in May, but was waived less than a month later.

The Redskins also waived T Kevin Bowen designated as injured.
