Training camp starts this week around the NFL, and the Redskins begin theirs tomorrow in Richmond, Virginia. This means it’s the perfect time for NFL writers to put out their season projections to either piss off, or excite fans of every team in the league. USA Today’s Nate Davis put out his projections for the 2017 season, and it doesn’t look good for the Washington Redskins.
The questions about Kirk Cousins' future will be on constant loop. And he may not enjoy the present all that much after losing two 1,000-yard receivers.
Davis has the Redskins as the only NFC East team with a losing record. The Dallas Cowboys project to win 11 games and repeat as NFC East champions. The Giants are once again right behind them at 10 wins with another Wild Card playoff spot, and the Eagles end the year with 9 wins. This leaves the Redskins squarely in the basement, and picking high in next year’s draft.
This projection means a disastrous season for the Redskins, could hasten the exit of QB Kirk Cousins, and puts Washington in line for more changes. The Redskins signed Jay Gruden to an extension this year, but lost their offensive and defensive coordinators. They also fired GM Scot McCloughan, leaving Bruce Allen, and an interchangeable group of executives in place. A lot of things need to go right for the Redskins to return to the playoffs, but a lot of things need to go very wrong for them drop down to a 5 win team this year.
