Offseason On the Brink: Extra-Strength Kool-Aid

There are few perches more soaked with optimism than the champagne room of basement podcast studios.

Another Tuesday night, another session for DC’s upbeat sports podcast, The Audible.

In fact, by the time my head hit the pillow last night, The Audible had recorded some of the most positive audio the basement has seen in some time. Want proof?

(Keep up the awesome work, Burgundy Blog! I appreciate the hustle, and I respect the dedication to the grind.)

Instead of breaking down each Washington draft pick individually, we tried to walk through how the draft made the Redskins better in key areas. We started out with our third down defense and our red zone offense. And yes...we found ways to argue that these areas are much improved.

And yes...I did have some good things to say about Brian Quick. If I was going to offer any spoilers for this show on this front, it would be this: the size of our receivers should very much impact our running game, specifically in the red zone. I am not sure how much each of our gigantic receivers is committed to being a physical run blocker, but we will find out. One thing I do know, DeSean Jackson wasn’t cracking down on anyone—not effectively, anyway. If our red zone efficiency/production is going to improve in 2017, the Redskins are going to have run far more effectively in that area, and our wide receivers will need to be part of that.

Thanks for listening, and thanks to everyone who came out to the live taping of the draft party at Caddies on Cordell last Thursday. We look forward to bringing The Audible to a variety of sports bars and venues in and around the city in the coming weeks and months.

HTTR!
