The Redskins have been pretty adamant about keeping Kirk Cousins and getting him signed to a long-term deal, at least publicly. The team reportedly offered him a deal worth $20 million per year for 5 years at this year’s Combine. There have been no new reports of an updated offer from the team, or a counter-offer from Cousins’ agent Mike McCartney. The team has until July 15th to sign Cousins to a new deal, or he will play the season on the franchise tag for a second year in a row.
Stories continue to come out that Cousins could get traded, and while the possibility is there, it seems highly unlikely. The team he’s traded to will need to work out a new deal, making him one of the top paid QBs in the league, and giving up serious draft capital to acquire him. The Redskins have the option of tagging Cousins again next season if a deal can’t be worked out, and then we can go through this all over again for another year. Thanks Bruce!
