As those of us, like SkinsNJ, obsessively refresh and update their Fanspeak mock drafts, there is one important thing to remember.
None of us has any idea who will be drafted by the Redskins in 2017. I combed through billions of 2016 mock drafts, even going all the way to the second page of a Google search. A’shawn Robinson, Reggie Ragland, Kenny Clark, ANDREW BILLINGS! Basically anyone who could stop a running back was the consensus choice. Judging by the performance of the 2015 defense, that seemed to be a reasonable assessment.
But the NFL draft proves every year to be an unreasonable assessment.
Team scouts have different judgments than team fans. Team coaches may see a diamond in the rough, while we see a lump of coal.
Players that we think will go low go high. Players like ANDREW BILLINGS! drop to the 4th round, while Jeremy Cash didn’t even get drafted.
A team with DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jamison Crowder and Jordan Reed used their first round pick on a wide receiver.
There is a high chance that the name called on Thursday night will give us a serious case of “WTF Bro?!”
So it got me to thinking, here are three names that could be drafted by the Redskins on Thursday night (probably won’t be) that would leave us scratching our heads, yelling at our televisions and calling Jay Gruden an Arena League coach.
- Mike Williams- WR, Clemson
There’d be a collective pants shatting if the Redskins picked a WR in round one. But Pryor is on a one-year deal, Doctson is still an unknown and Gruden loves him some fades.
This pick would seem to be overkill. Reed, Davis, Paul and a rookie...too many defensive needs. But we’ve seen weirder.
Corner seems to be another position that the Redskins are fairly comfortable with right now. Norman is elite, Breeland is really good when he’s on and Kendall Fuller was thought to be a first round talent.
But would that stop the Redskins from loading up on another corner back?
So what would be your WTF pick?
