The Washington Redskins announced today that they have re-signed restricted free agent running back Chris Thompson. Details of the deal have not been released or reported yet. Thompson was tendered at the 2nd round level which made it highly unlikely that he would be signing with another team.
Will Compton was also a RFA who was tendered, but his was an original round tender. Compton was an undrafted free agent, which means the Redskins get nothing in return if he signs elsewhere. The deadline for RFAs to sign with other teams was 4pm today.
Chris Thompson returns to the Redskins for his 5th season. Last year he ran for 356 yards and 3 TDs. He also had 349 receiving yards and another 2 TDs in the air.
"This year he made it clear to me on multiple occasions that he had a lot of confidence in me this year and even when it came to protections, he never worried about my guy sacking him or anything," Thompson said in January. "It meant everything to me to be in a situation where Kirk trust me a lot in the pass and run game and protection, everything. That's what you want to hear from your quarterback and it takes time to build that. And I'm hoping in the near future, I will be right here along with Kirk for years to come."
Chris Thompson will make $2.746 mil next year for the Redskins. Did not receive any offers from other teams that he asked Skins to match.
