Redskins Release GM Scot McCloughan

Wow.

NFL: Washington Redskins at Arizona Cardinals Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Welp, the Redskins will finish out the rest of their off-season with no General Manager as the team fired Scot McCloughan today after a two-year run with the organization.

You all already know the drama that’s led up to this. He’s been absent from Redskins Park this week and has been spotted around town in full Redskins gear. He wasn’t at the NFL Scouting Combine after the organization publicly stated his absence was due to a family matter (presumably the loss of his grandmother). There have been numerous reports about dysfunction (HAHA!) in the Redskins FO that have led to this unfortunate moment for the team.

There have been reports he was running draft meetings with members of the org as recently as last week. Others in the personnel department were surprised when he wasn’t at the combine.

This is one of the busiest times of the year in the NFL schedule and just about the last time of the year you’d want something like this to happen. We’re hours into FA and the draft is right around the corner.

Speculation of this move has been ongoing, even though Scot was only two years into a four-year contract.

According to the Washington Post, an official with direct knowledge of the situation attributed the situation to McCloughan’s ongoing problems with alcohol.

For more of the insider information about Scot’s alcohol problems and how they led to his dismissal, read the Washington Post article at the following link:

It’s a sad day in Redskins Nation...
