Redskins Injury Update: Washington is more injured than last week

Unbelievable...

The Redskins listed 21 players on their first injury report for the week leading up to their away game against the Seattle Seahawks. That is, amazingly, an increase from last week’s 17 players. The list continues to grow, and the Redskins are hoping some of these players can get healthy for Sunday’s game.

The good news is that 7 of the players listed were full participants in today’s practice, but Bashaud Breeland was a full go last week before injuring himself in practice before the Cowboys game. The Redskins will need every player healthy enough to play to be on the field this week, especially on the banged up offensive line.

There are four players that were limited today, and Breeland was the only player who was inactive last week due to injury. Rob Kelley continues to nurse an ankle injury. Montae Nicholson has been dealing with shoulder issues all year, and also suffered a stinger on Sunday. Martrell Spaight, who is getting more playing time after Mason Foster was placed on IR, is also dealing with a shoulder injury.

The biggest portion of the injury list today unfortunately is filled with the 10 Redskins players who did not practice today. We’ll start with the offensive line and go from there. Trent Williams continues to try to heal up a knee injury that will require surgery whenever he decides to call it a season. Brandon Scherff is still dealing with the MCL injury he suffered two weeks ago against the Eagles. Spencer Long is dealing with knee/quad injuries, and Gruden made it sound like he could miss some time. Shawn Lauvao also suffered a stinger last week and missed time last week. That’s 4 out of 4 Redskins OL starters out of practice, with only Morgan Moses full with his two injured ankles. Backup OT Ty Nsekhe was also out, and the Redskins will need him back as soon as he is recovered from the core muscle surgery he had 5 weeks ago.

The Redskins are missing two of their 4 tight ends with Jordan Reed(hamstring) and Niles Paul(concussion) out today. Reed is expected to miss the Seahawks game, and Paul is in the concussion protocol. WR Jamison Crowder(hamstring) also sat out today’s practice after having his best game of the season last week.

The defense only had two players who couldn’t practice today. Zach Brown sat with a back injury that he also sat for last Wednesday. DE Matt Ioannidis is having surgery for a fractured hand, and is expected to miss at least this week’s game. He will then have to get comfortable playing with a club. The Redskins placed backup safety Stefan McClure on IR today to make room for DE Arthur Jones. DeAngelo Hall also said today that he expects to be activated off the PUP list this week and see the field on Sunday.
