The Redskins made two roster moves official today. It was reported last night by beat writers that DE Arthur Jones would be signed, and he confirmed the signing himself in two instagram posts. Jones(6’3”, 320 lbs, 32 yo) started his career with the Baltimore Ravens after being drafted in the 5th round in the 2010 draft. He was signed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2014, and spent three years there, missing the 2015 season after being placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Jones was with the Colts under current Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky from 2014-2015, when he was Indianapolis’ DC.
The Redskins need more depth on the defensive line due to...wait for it...injuries. Rookie Jonathan Allen was placed on IR with a Lisfranc injury, and now Matt Ioannidis will require hand surgery that will keep him off the field for at least one week. That pair represented the Redskins most disruptive force on defense this season. There were 4 healthy DL before the Jones signing today, Ziggy Hood, Terrell McClain, Stacy McGee, and Anthony Lanier. The Redskins also worked out DEs Jaye Howard and Cam Thomas yesterday, before deciding to sign Jones.
The Redskins also placed DB Stefan McClure on injured reserve with an ankle injury. The team was deciding last night who would have to go to make room for Jones to be added, and McClure was low man on the roster...and injured. The Redskins got Bashaud Breeland back on the practice field today, and are still waiting for DeAngelo Hall to be cleared to play. Hall returned to practice on October 23rd, starting the 3 week window the team has to activate him. The Redskins have two uninjured safeties right now(D.J. Swearinger and Deshazor Everett) and rookie Montae Nicholson who is dealing with shoulder injuries.
Can’t wait to see this week’s injury report.
