Sports Illustrated writer Chris Burke has given the Redskins Stanford Cardinal DL Solomon Thomas in his latest mock draft.
Thomas, a junior who just declared early for the draft yesterday is a very exciting player to watch. Thomas has played at a consistently high level all year but is now a household name because of his ridiculously good performance in the Sun Bowl against North Carolina.
Thomas is a bit undersized for a DL (6-3 / 271) in a traditional 3-4, but it shouldn’t matter much when evaluating him because his talent is undeniable. Thomas finished the year with 61 tackles (14 for loss), 8.5 sacks, 1 FF, and 2 FR. He was named to the All-PAC-12 first team and the AP All-American third team this year.
Burke has this to say about the “selection”,
...Thomas has the power to push through OTs off the edge, coupled with the quickness to slip past interior blockers. He’s a fit for all schemes and all downs. Exactly what Washington is missing up front.
