The Redskins are in obvious need of help, especially on the defensive side of the ball, this offseason. General Manager Scot McCloughan neglected our defense with quality free agent acquisitions in 2016, and the team payed dearly for that neglect. Scot has his work cut out for him in 2017, and will need to add both through free agency and in the draft, if the Redskins are to take the next steps.
Below are some potential free agents, outside of our own we may re-sign, that COULD be available this spring.
WR: Both Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson are set to become free agents. One may be brought back, but there is little chance both will be. If neither are re-signed, the Redskins would be wise to add a proven veteran to the unit.
Alshon Jeffery(26) Chi
Terrelle Pryor(27) Cle
Cordarrelle Patterson(25) Min
Robert Woods(24) Buf
RB: Matt Jones can't hang onto the football. Robert Kelly is a nice ancillary piece, but I don't know if he's a feature back in this league.
Eddie Lacy(26) GB
OG: Sean Lauvao is the week link of the line. Finding his replacement should be a focal point this offseason.
Kevin Zeitler(26) Cin
Ron Leary(27) Dal
Chance Warmack(25) Ten
Luke Joeckel(25) Jac
Larry Warford(25) Det
DT: Defensive tackle may be one of the positions in the most dire need of an upgrade. Re-signing Chris Baker should be a priority, but at least two more quality players are needed on this front.
Dontari Poe(26) KC
Kawann Short(27) Car
Johnathan Hankins(25) NYG
LB: The Redskins linebacking unit was amongst the worst in the NFL. An upgrade(or two...or three) is an absolute must.
Malcolm Smith(27) Oak
Kevin Minter(26) Ari
Gerald Hodges(25) SF
Zach Brown(27) Buf
S: It seems like forever that the Redskins have had an impact free safety. This HAS to be the year that changes.
Eric Berry(28) KC
Chris Conte(27) TB
Some of the above mentioned players(and I'm pretty sure some not even listed), combined with some wise draft picks, could get the Redskins back into the playoffs.
