Player Overview

Montravious Adams is sure to be a polarizing prospect in draft rooms across the country. Adams has flashed incredible talent but has also been inconsistent for much of his college career. He will be able to play inside in a 4-3 or as an end in a 3-4 and is effective in both pressuring the QB and stopping the run. Adams has the build of a truck, with good strength and athleticism. He has a tremendous amount of upside if he can correct his technique.

Adams’ main issues are playing with inconsistent pad level. When he gets low he wins, when he comes in too high he gets stonewalled. High pad level in combination with the routine double teams he receives lead to compromised balance and leverage. Adams has all the physical tools to be a dominant DL at the next level. He needs to go to a team with a good DL coach to lock down his fundamentals and technique.

Strengths

• Calling card is a serious bull rush. Has the ability to completely move a man into the backfield. Can consistently collapse the pocket from the middle.
• Good athlete for being such a big guy. When his technique is right he has good initial burst and quickness allowing him to get skinny through the gaps.
• Is a definite 3 down player. Adams brings pass rush and run defense skills and isn't a one trick pony.
• Effort player, there have been times where I see him 20 yards down the field chasing down the ball carrier.

Weaknesses

• Inconsistent technique. His pad level is too high at times which leads him to lose leverage and balance which lead him to lose vision of the ball and his overall effectiveness.
• Doesn't seem to know how to recover when his initial move doesn't work, he has to keep fighting through blocks.

How He Would Fit On The Redskins

Adams is far from a finished product and I for one would like to see what Jim Tomsula can teach this kid. Adams has all the tools you want in your 3 down DL: size, quickness, strength, effort, finishing ability but he doesn’t always put it together. It may take Admas a couple years for the light to switch on but if/when it does I want him on my team and would not want the Redskins to be playing against him. This may be the draft where the Redskins take several defensive linemen especially in the middle rounds where the Redskins hold four picks. Adams should be in consideration on day 2 and even more so on day 3.

I see Adams challenging immediately for the starting DT/DE role next to or opposite Chris Baker. At minimum I view him as a heavy part of the rotation and a player that can be used in any situation on matter the down and distance.
