Redskins sign Jim Tomsula for DL coach; Officially announce coaching staff changes

The Redskins new coaching staff is almost complete

NFL: Preseason-San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Redskins have officially announced a number of changes to their coaching staff on both sides of the ball today. The moves have been reported in the past week, but are now officially official. Redskins OLB coach Greg Manusky has been promoted to Defensive Coordinator, replacing Joe Barry. Jim Tomsula, who worked with Manusky and Redskins GM Scot McCloughan on the San Francisco 49ers, will be the team’s new Defensive Line coach. There has been no word on whether the team will be able to retain assistant DBs coach Aubrey Pleasant, and promote him to DBs coach. The team is trying to keep him from joining Sean McVay and Barry with the Los Angeles Rams.

Matt Cavanaugh will officially take over for McVay as the Redskins Offensive Coordinator. Kevin O’Connell, who played under Cavanaugh as a backup with the Jets, has been hired as the team’s new QB coach. The Rams were also reportedly interested in Redskins TE coach Wes Phillips, but there has been no word on his status at this time.

And in news that everyone cares about, Chad Englehart replaces Hall of Fame Strength and Conditioning coach Mike Clark. Kavan Latham takes Englehart’s job as Assistant S&C coach.
