And the list grows... The Redskins have interviewed for Charger DC John Pagano for their vacant DC position.
John is the brother of Indianapolis Colts HC Chuck Pagano. He’d been with the Chargers since 2002, the only NFL franchise he’s ever worked for, after being hired by Marty Schottenheimer. After starting as a Defensive QC Coach, John worked as the LB Coach from 2005 to 2011. After former Charger DC (and current Redskins OLB Coach) Greg Manusky was fired in SD in 2011, John was promoted to that spot by HC Norv Turner. Joe Barry was John’s LB Coach in SD prior to becoming the DC for the Redskins.
Here are Pagano’s defenses’ league rankings:
- 2012 - 9th in yards allowed and 16th in points allowed
- 2013 - 23rd in yards allowed and 11th in points allowed
- 2014 - 9th in yards allowed and 13th in points allowed
- 2015 - 20th in yards allowed and 21st in points allowed
- 2016 - 16th in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed
The known list of DC interviewees for the Redskins is as follows:
- John Pagano
- Mike Pettine
- Gus Bradley
- Rob Ryan
- Greg Manusky
- Jason Tarver
- Dennis Thurman
All of the candidates are still available and have not accepted jobs with other teams.
