At only 30 years old, Sean McVay is one of the youngest OCs in the NFL. One day after the Washington Redskins’ season came to a crushing end, it’s now being reported that that McVay will interview for the L.A. Rams’ vacant HC position at some point this week.
People have talked about McVay’s future as a HC for a few years now. It’s only a matter of time. But at only 30, most thought his time may still be at least a couple of years down the road. Looks like that timeline is shorter than most thought.
The Rams were terrible this season going 4-12 and finally moving on from failed HC Jeff Fisher. It makes sense that they want someone younger and “fresh.” According to Albert Breer, the Broncos (who now have a vacancy as well thanks to Gary Kubiak stepping down) may hit up McVay for a HC interview, too.
The Rams are set to interview a number of candidates and you have to think that McVay’s age will be a major deterrent in hiring him for a HC job this off-season. Other names being floated around in L.A. are Josh McDaniels, Doug Marrone, and Sean Payton. It’d be unfortunate to lose McVay, but the fact that he’s getting interviews like this shows just how good of a coach he is.
McVay’s done an excellent job as OC for the Redskins. The unit isn’t perfect, but they’re certainly one of the tops in the league and both he and Jay Gruden deserve a lot of credit for that. The players love him.
