Remember last year? Remember how screwed the Cowboys were when Tony Romo went down (as he does)? Remember how they were in such dire need of a backup QB to save their season and had none? Well let me tell you, they really went out and addressed that possibility from ever coming to fruition again this year by signing the great Kellen Moore to backup Romo for when he gets hurt this year. Kellen Moore broke his ankle yesterday.
It should be noted that the Cowboys drafted Dak Prescott in the fourth-round of this year’s draft and at the moment, he’s the QB2. That’s right, a fourth-round rookie. They also have an UDFA from last year, Jameill Showers, at QB for whatever that’s worth.
You have to figure there’s no way the Cowboys want to go into this season with their backup QB being a fourth-round rookie. They’re going to need to find a vet. Jerry Jones said last week that the team wasn’t interested in Nick Foles, but according to ESPN’s Ed Werder, they’re considering him now (as well as potential trades for a veteran backup).
As of right now, the Cowboys give starting QB Tony Romo every third day off in practice because... you know... he’s old and always hurt. If they want to keep with that schedule, they probably need to find another QB pretty quick. It should be noted that Nick Foles is represented by the same guy who represents Cowboy HC Jason Garrett and Cowboy OC Scott Linehan. Werder listed Josh McCown and Mike Glennon as potential trade targets for the Cowboys.
