Today's conversation starter is a VERY late-night sports argument from the ol' basement studio about none other than the Kirk Cousins contract topic. To be honest, I thought it came out pretty good, and I think it covered most of the sides of this debate. As always, Tim carries the flag for many of you that still feel perfectly comfortable with the one-year franchise deal.
I do see this as the one rather obvious miscalculation by this front office, but the fact of the matter is that for the first time in a long time, this kind of miscalculation won't cost us talent at the quarterback position. (I do think it could cost us talent at some other position, as I noted in the show, based on whatever the difference in salary is between what they could have signed him for and what they will end up signing him for--assuming that long-term contract does indeed get inked.
In short, I feel like at this point, the team is probably content to let the injury risk sit on Kirk's side of the table for a year. We'll see. At the end of the day, the Redskins control Cousins. They will continue to have some measure of control through to next year as well, so this matter becomes less and less a "thing" in my opinion, but it is a very juicy topic nonetheless...especially after a good amount of whiskey has been consumed! That's what makes this #5occ material!
