Happy Training Camp Eve, Redskins Fans

On the eve of the 2016 Washington Redskins training camp, DC sports fans are feeling the heat...of being defending NFC East champions.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Well, we made it.

Tomorrow, actual football players take the actual football field and engage in actual football-related activities in the actual runup to the actual football season. Every year, we take a moment to soak in the fact we trudged through yet another offseason. Once again, I am proud to report we have largely stayed together as a group--the family remains intact headed into the season.

I like this comments section to be a collection of everyone's top moment of the offseason. It can be a move made by the team--or a move NOT made by the team. It can be a story you read on this site or some other outlet, and/or the reaction by the fanbase to the news.

I am not sure if it was my top, top moment, but the drafting of Josh Doctson stands out to me as a night where the true direction the front office has this organization pointed in became more apparent. As you all know, I wanted Ryan Kelly, the center out of Alabama. As it turns out, the Redskins really wanted him as well, but the Indianapolis Colts snatched him up ahead of our slot. Unable to trade down (or unswayed by any offers made to him), Scot "McLovin" McCloughan did what any fan should want his team's personnel man to do: he took the best player available. You win with talent at this level, and Josh Doctson, the wide receiver out of TCU, has plenty of talent. Given the uncertainty of how our wide receiver corps will look after this season (DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon won't likely be coming back next season together), the addition of Doc is not the luxury pick some made it out to be at the time.

We all will miss Junior Galette's contributions this season, but it is precisely because of McLovin's player-picking prowess that this injury is not the knockout blow it could have been. Last year, our man drafted a player named Preston Smith who came on strong as the 2015 season closed out. The Pressssssssss-TONE Era is officially fully underway.

Thanks to all the writers and contributors here at Hogs Haven for making the offseason bearable. We have had a blast and we all look forward to covering the DEFENDING NFC East champions as they begin their inexorable march to Super Bowl glory.

We'll be joined tonight on The Audible by JP Finlay of Comcast Sportsnet, as well as Robert Henson, former Redskins linebacker and co-host of The District, to set the table for training camp and the preseason.
