Training camp hasn't even started yet, and we have our first season-ending injury for the Washington Redskins. OLB Junior Galette has torn his other Achilles tendon while doing football drills on Sunday. Galette signed a 1 year, vet-minimum contract last season, only to go down early in training camp after tearing his left Achilles tendon. Galette re-signed on another 1 year deal with the Redskins this offseason. This year's contract had a $1 million base salary with the potential to earn an additional $2.5 million in incentives.
The Redskins were looking for Galette to add another pass rushing option to Pro Bowler Ryan Kerrigan, and last season's rookie sack leader Preston Smith. They will have to look elsewhere this year, and probably not risk a third try for Galette in 2017. Trent Murphy, who started his career in Washington as an OLB has bulked up this year to switch to the defensive line. The current depth at the position includes Houston Bates, undrafted rookies Shiro Davis and Mike Wakefield, Willie Jefferson, and Lynden Trail.
I'm told #Redskins OLB Junior Galette has torn his Achilles and is out for the season.
