Prisco: Norman is “Good” not “Great”

Josh Norman Makes Pete Prisco’s Most Overrated NFL Players List

NFL: New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports released his annual “NFL’s Most Overrated” list where he names an NFL player from every team that is “more name than game”. Josh Norman was the Redskins representative on the list.

Prisco gave this reason for listing Norman:

Norman is a good player. But he's not a great player. That's why he's on this list. He was perfect in the Carolina defense where corners can be hidden some behind the pass rush. It will be interesting to see how he plays on this Washington defense. Can he be more of a man-cover player?

I have to say, in my opinion, there is not much in this quote. By now we all know a major selling point for Josh Norman doubters and that the Carolina front seven somehow bailed him out over the course of his extremely productive 2015 season. While of course it helps the secondary to have a good pass rush. The players in that secondary still have to be quite good to put together the 56 tackle, 4 interception (2 for touchdowns), 18 passes defended, and 3 forced fumble season Norman had.

It’s quite normal to question if a player will produce at the same level once signing a rich contract and moving onto a different team. However, the arguments against Norman, which simply seem to extend to “Pass Rush” leave a lot of meat on the bone as far as analysis and prediction and dangerously underrate the Redskins ability to push the passer. Redskins fans should have ease getting behind Norman this year in hoping he proves every one of his dissenters wrong.
