Player Overview
Anthony Brown is a speedy cornerback who's had a sneaky productive career at Purdue. In high school, Brown ran the 100-meter dash in 10.58 seconds. Brown has decent size for the position with a compact body type. What's most impressive about Brown are his instincts, his active hands, and his willingness and accuracy in tackling in space. He is a somewhat raw talent but his ability to locate the ball and break up the pass is impressive and he has a good foundation to work with. His willingness to close and take out ball carriers along with pulling off several splash plays have gotten him recognized by NFL scouts.

How He Makes the Cowboys Better and Creates Problems for the Redskins
I certainly still think Anthony Brown is an excellent late round talent but the Cowboys may have to rely on the rookie way too soon. The original profile I wrote on him can be found here. With Bryon Jones set to move to free safety and the Cowboys parting ways with Terrence Mitchell in early June, Brown finds himself in competition with veteran corner Josh Thomas for the 4th cornerback slot.
Despite being thin and undersized Brown certainly has the competitive spirit you want out of your cornerbacks. He can use his athleticism to get into position and break up a pass but it will be much harder in the NFL. Brown should be worked into an NFL defense slowly and with patience giving him time to develop by letting him contribute on special teams. Brown is not a player you want covering starting receivers in the NFL off the bat because he is still very raw, slightly undisciplined and susceptible to quick moves.
If Brown is covering Josh Doctson in a dime package place your bets on Kirk Cousins and JD in these contests. Brown has the potential to develop into a fine player but if Cousins is throwing accurate passes to Doctson anywhere on the field Josh is going to have himself a Brown Bag lunch. To be fair Cousins has many options given the Cowboys lack luster cornerback group which consists of Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, and Orlando Scandrick. Actually let’s be real homers and break this down.
Brandon Carr vs. Desean Jackson = Desean Winning
Morris Claiborne vs. Pierre Garcon = Pierre Winning
Orlando Scandrick vs. Jamison Crowder = Jamison Winning
Anthony Brown / Josh Thomas vs. Josh Doctson = Josh Winning
There you have it.
