Replacing Pierre Garçon

Mark Tyler gives some possible replacements for the overpaid wide receiver.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Recent debate on HogsHaven has centered around what we should do with wide receiver Pierre Garçon and his 10.2 million dollar salary for the 2016 season. The local Redskins media has picked this up too, with stories suggesting anywhere from a modest restructure to an outright cut.

Many feel the intangibles Garçon brings to this team in areas outside the general on-field production, such as leadership, toughness and chemistry with Cousins, outweigh the paltry stats. Others feel his age(he'll turn 30 August 8th), lack of production over the past two seasons(an average of 70 receptions, 765 yards and 4.5 TD's per season), less-than-ideal height(just 6" tall), and his salary cap hit, should make him a candidate to either restructure or be cut.

Whether he's cut, restructured or kept at his current salary, the Redskins need to plan for the future, as this is the last season Garçon is under contract with the team. His running mate, DeSean Jackson, has a voidable year in 2017, likely making 2016 his last season with the team as well. The Redskins certainly need to get bigger, younger and more explosive at wideout, and the draft and free agency this off-season will offer the team some nice options to begin building for the future at the position.

Below are some free agent and draft options at wide receiver the Redskins could target.
