Only five times in NFL history has a team had three wide receivers reach 1,000 yards.
The 1980 Chargers, 1989 Redskins, 1995 Falcons, 2004 Colts and 2008 Cardinals are the only teams to have accomplished the feat.
With three games left on the schedule, Jamison Crowder, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon are flirting with becoming the sixth team to do it.
Where do the receivers stand and what will they need to do to reach 1,000?
Jamison Crowder
Jamison Crowder is slowly becoming my favorite Redskins player, along with the Obese Beast of the NFC East, Rob Kelley. His game reminds me a lot of Santana Moss and he seems to do his best work within the division.
So far this year Crowder has 60 catches for 804 yards and 7 TDs. He’s averaging 61.8 yards per game. He needs 196 yards over the last three games to reach 1,000. That’s an average of 65.3 yards per game. If he can muster an extra 3.5 yards more than his average over this stretch run, he’ll reach 1,000.
Pierre Garçon
Pierre Garçon is the steady, reliable guy who Kirk goes to when he needs a play late in the game. His 4th and 1 catch against Philly kept the Redskins season alive. By the way, he always seems to do something awesome against the Eagles.
Anyway, Garçon so far has 64 catches (needs to chill with this, so I don’t lose a bet to SkinsNJ) for 773 yards and 3 TDs. His per game average is 59.5 yards per game. To reach 1,000 yards he’ll need 227 yards, or 75.6 yards per game over the next three. That’s 16.6 yards more than his game average over the first 13 games...seems like a lot.
DeSean Jackson
DeSean Jackson has been bombs away as of late, most recently catching an absurd 80-yard TD against the Eagles last week. Jackson is currently sitting on 42 catches for 746 yards and 4 TDs, for a per game average of 62.2 yards. Jackson needs 254 yards over the next three to reach 1,000, or an average of 84.6 yards per game. That’s a 22.2 yard increase over his average for the next three. While that seems massive, Jackson can get over 100 yards in 2-3 catches. And lately the deep ball has been connecting, so the possibility is real.
If all three receivers stay on track with their current averages they’ll finish with 932 yards (Jackson), 951 yards (Garçon) and 989 yards (Crowder).
