Redskins to Hire Colts DC Greg Manusky as OLB Coach

Manusky is a former Redskins player.

According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports and Rich Tandler of CSN Mid-Atlantic, the Washington Redskins are set to hire former Indianapolis Colts DC Greg Manusky as their new OLB Coach.  You'll recall that the Redskins didn't have an OLB Coach last year as DC Joe Barry and DL Coach Rob Akey handled those duties.

Greg had a 12-year career in the NFL as a LB and STs ace.  During those 12 years, he spent three in Washington with Joe Gibbs from 1988-1990.  He also played for the Vikings and Chiefs.

He began coaching as the LB Coach for the 'Skins under HC Marty Schottenheimer in 2001.  After Marty was fired in Washington and moved out to SD to coach the Chargers, Greg followed.  In 2007, he took a job as the DC for the San Francisco 49ers and remained in that position until 2010.  He then took the DC job in SD for a year (2011) before moving on to the DC job for the Indianapolis Colts from 2012-2015.  The Colts ranked 26th in total defense last year and Manusky was fired at the end of the year.  His defensive rankings in points allowed per game over his four years with the Colts: 21st (24.2 ppg), 9th (21 ppg), 19th (23.1 ppg), and then 25th last year (25.5 ppg).

It's worth noting that Redskins GM Scot McCloughan was the 49ers GM while Greg was the DC there.  Greg has ties with Joe Barry as Barry was his LB Coach in 2011 while Greg was the DC in SD.  It's also worth noting that Joe Barry and the Redskins have two former NFL DCs working as position coaches now with Greg joining DB Coach Perry Fewell who was the Giants DC from 2010-2014.

No hire has been made yet, however the two sides are working towards an agreement.
