Welcome everyone to Week 4 of the 2015 Hump Day NFL Pick'em!
We are back and so happy to continue to work with the good folks at NRG, who provided the excellent prizes last year and will continue to do so this season!
Week 3 had us crashing back down to Earth with our Redskins getting spanked again in front of a national television audience. In a way, we should have seen it coming since the Redskins seemingly haven't beaten the Giants since the Truman administration. It was all worth it though, as the four days between the Rams game and the Giants game were the most fun we've had in a while as fans. In regards to our picks, the Hump Day staff and I managed to follow up our solid Week 2 record of 5-5 with another solid week of 5-5 and finished with a solid five points. Solid.
We were also happy we were able to name a winner for Week 2: Dolemite Jenkins, who has won two tickets to the Redskins-Eagles game courtesy of NRG! Please send me your name and address so we can get your tickets out to you!
In regards to last week's prize, the randomly selected contestants were Drankurn and Terp51. After going head to head with their picks, the winner was:
Drankurn, who finished with a 9-1 record!!! Congrats to him, and now we move on to Week 4.
This is a weekly contest in which I will make ten game picks each Wednesday and invite you, the loyal Hogs Haven readers, to make your own picks in the comments section.
I will still make my picks each week based on the early lines set in Las Vegas, but instead of picking a winner for every game, I will choose ten games that I feel are the most significant. The games chosen will always include the nationally televised games, the Redskins games (of course), and then whatever other games I find interesting. This change is not purely due to my laziness, but laziness did play a large role.
I am not capping the amount of entrants this year, so everyone who comments with their picks after the post goes up (using the games I chose), and enters Rafflecopter will have a chance.
******Note: Going forward, please use your Hogs Haven handle as your first name to make it easier to locate your picks in the comments section.******
Two contestants will be chosen using Rafflecopter. I will announce the two contestants on Thursday night at 7:30pm on our show "The District" found right here on Hogs Haven and streaming live on WBAD radio.
As I mentioned above, I will incorporate the spread as determined by Las Vegas the Tuesday before the games and you can earn 1 point for each correct choice. The contestant with the best score will be the winner. Ties will be decided, as usual, by our lovely assistant, who will draw a name out of my favorite, dirty, Redskins hat.
The winner will be announced on the next week's Hump Day Pick'em and earn a fabulous prize, courtesy of NRG, that will then be mailed to them. Each week the prize will change, and every week a prize will be given out.
Simple right?!?!
Here are my 10 picks for this week:
Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers: Normally I'd go with the team starting a 35-year old injury prone QB who will be making only his fourth start in the last two seasons, but I'm just not feeling this one. Pick: Ravens (-2.5)
New York Jets (-1.5) vs. Miami Dolphins: I'm sure most fans in England will be devastated when they show up to this game in their coolest Jaguars gear. Pick: Jets (-1.5)
Jacksonville Jaguars (+9) at Indianapolis Colts: The Jags will actually be in Indy, where they'll treat Colts fans to a game that will feature an injured Luck and most likely very little screen time on the Red Zone Channel. Pick: Colts (-9)
Carolina Panthers (-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Panthers are 3-0 and just traded for pass rusher Jared Allen. Carolina is also 4-0 against Tampa in the last four meetings. On the bright side for Buc's fans, they're bringing back two-for-one bacon wrapped hot dogs at the stadium for this week. Pick: Panthers (-3)
New York Giants (+5.5) at Buffalo Bills: Sorry Giants, you only get to play the Redskins twice a year. Pick: Bills (-5.5)
Philadelphia Eagles (-3) at Washington Redskins: Word to the wise (Redskins): Please cover Darren Sproles. He's good. He's really, really, really good. Pick: Redskins (+3)
Minnesota Vikings (+6.5) at Denver Broncos: Some experts are saying Peyton Manning's game has fallen off a bit this year. It reminds of when you're at the end of your Snickers bar and you're thinking "eh, I'm kind of done with this". But you know what, pal? It's still a Snickers bar. Pick: Broncos (-6.5)
St. Louis Rams (+7) at Arizona Cardinals: Cardinals running back Chris Johnson sat on my fantasy bench last week as he rang up 110 yards and two touchdowns. He will be starting for me this week, so you can expect a return to more meager numbers. Pick: Cardinals (-7)
Dallas Cowboys (+4.5) at New Orleans Saints: The Saints are really hoping quarterback Drew Brees can play in this game and lead them to their first win this season. That makes two of us. Pick: Saints (-4.5)
Detroit Lions (+10) at Seattle Seahawks: The Lions are about to learn that no one can pump in fake crowd noise like the Seahawks. Pick: Seahawks (-10)
So there are my Week 4 picks. The winner this week will have this fabulous prize to look forward to, courtesy of NRG:
A Redskins Prize Pack!!!!!
That's right - We're giving away a Redskins bag filled with Redskins goodies!!!!
I will announce this week's two contestants, as chosen by Rafflecopter, on tomorrow night's episode of "The District", and the winner will be announced next Wednesday (hopefully) on the next Hump Day post.
Good luck!!!!
