Chris Cooley is one of the greatest Redskins in recent history and one of the franchise's top TEs of all-time. He's also a current radio analyst/Redskins employee. And now, he's looking to team-up with our divisional foe the New York Giants.
According to ESPN 980 (his current employer and a radio station owned by Dan Snyder), Cooley is on his way to NJ to tryout for the Giants tomorrow.
Chris played with the Redskins his entire career (2004-2012) and was a 2x Pro Bowler ('07 and '08). At 33, Cooley recently began talking about a possible comeback to the NFL earlier this year. The Redskins, however, weren't interested. Neither was the rest of the league... until now.
It's a bit curious that the team to express interest is the Giants. They have Larry Donnell firmly entrenched as the starter and Daniel Fells is a fine backup. Their third-stringer, Jerome Cunningham, is currently dealing with a minor knee injury that caused him to miss the Redskins game last Thursday.
UPDATE: Cooley will not be joining the Giants.
Sincere thanks to the #giants for the opportunity today. I am too determined to ever doubt I can play.I will not quit, but only work harder.
