Washington Redskins Player Profiles: Brandon Scherff

Let's Get to know Brandon Scherff

Brandon Scherff

Position: Tackle

Height: 6'5", Weight: 319 lbs

College: Iowa

Drafted: 1st Round, Pick 5 overall

Brandon Scherff was the fifth overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. Expectations couldn't be higher for the lineman from Iowa. The Redskins need to shore up the offensive line and Scherff should hopefully fit the bill. Let's get to know Brandon Scherff.

#1. Scherff was a beast in Iowa's weight room. His feats there have become the stuff of Hawkeye legend. Take a look at him in this video and watch him hang clean 443 lbs.

#2. My gut tells me that Brandon always had a pretty good idea he'd be going to the NFL. How do I know that, you ask? His major at Iowa was Leisure Studies. I don't even know what that is, but it sounds like a great program! I think this calls for a series on the college majors of current players. Leisure studies sounds like the reason I was on academic probation for most of my college career.

#3. Scherff is an outdoorsman. His most recent tweets have been asking where the best fishing spots are in DC.

By the way, when I go to Scherff's twitter page, it suggests I follow similar accounts. Twitter's suggestion? House of Webster jams, jellies, &  preserves. This is either great or terrible. I guess we'll know once the season begins.

#4. In a recent interview, Griffin expressed confidence in Scherff. "I'm a believer that if you did it in college, you can do it in the pros. I believe in him. I believe in the rest of the guys upfront. He's going to bring that tenacity and that finishing mindset. He's not going to be discouraged, no matter what happens."

#5. The Hogs love Scherff! According to a Washington Post article, "[S]everal members of the Hogs said they were excited about Washington's new right tackle when interviewed at the 11th Annual Mickey Steele Texas Hold'em Tournament in Grasonville".

"You can just tell the guy's the ultimate offensive lineman. He's a gritty guy. He's a tough guy," [Raleigh] McKenzie said.

Bottom Line: All kidding aside, the Redskins are pinning a lot on this rookie. He'll have every opportunity to show the team if their faith in him is warranted.
